How to Reach the Cinco Lagos Trailhead

The Cinco Lagos trailhead is a 5 minute drive from Tziscao village, a small town that shares a border with Guatemala. The Cinco Lagos trailhead can easily be reach via car and there is a small area to park right in front of the gatekeeper. If you don't have a car, motos are easy to catch between the road to the trailhead and the village.

Once you pay the Laguna Pojoj entrance fee and sign-in, start up the trailhead. The trailhead is located on the lefthand side after the gatekeeper hut and before Laguna Pojoj.

Cinco Lagos Hike | Senderno El Perol

The Cinco Lagos hike from start to end takes about an hour. There are nice viewpoints along the way, especially the first one overlooking Laguna Pojoj. This first viewpoint is less than 15 minutes from the trailhead. Here, find a a bench and covered shelter area to appreciate the views.

Most people turn around here, but the trail really is lovely and worth it to keep going. The Cinco Lagos hike is best to be done in the early morning to avoid the afternoon heat and day trippers. However, a majority of the trail is protected from the lush, towering trees.

Another point of interest along this Chiapas hiking path is the King Kong Mirador.

Cinco Lagos Hike Add-Ons

The trail ends when it reaches the foothills of the larger lake you've been winding along next to. To the left takes you to a rocky/sandy beach. It's possible to swim here.

Another option is to head towards the right. Look for a staircase that leads uphill to a beautiful viewpoint of the lakes. This was one of my favorite views of the Cinco Lagos hike.

When ready, head back on the same trail that brought you here. This pleasant day hike in Chiapas can be done in around three hours.
