This is a map and overview of a two day Juta Valley loop hike. This diverse trek goes between the tiny Juta village in Sno Valley to the even smaller hamlet of Roshka. What makes this Juta Valley hike so great is that it's a loop route that includes two passes. Juta Georgia is found just off the Georgia Military Road between Tbilisi and the mountain gateway village of Kazbegi. With it's close proximity to Kazbegi, Juta is often a popular day trip from Kazbegi (Stepantsminda).

Those who visit Juta as a day hike can catch stellar views of the mountains from the artificial Chaukhi Lake or hang out at the mountain hut, Fifth Season. However, the trek from Juta to Roshka is a great way to enjoy the pristine countryside of Georgia.

The first day of the Juta Valley trek, climb over the Chaukhi Pass. This Juta trek map includes a stop at two of the three Abudelauri Lakes, both the Blue and Green Abudelauri Lakes. The While Abudelauri Lake is a little more of a detour. On day 2, leave Roshka and climb over the Sadzele Pass and return to Juta.

This two day Juta Valley trekking itinerary is perfect for those looking to explore and experience the beautiful Chaukhi Massif that is often referred to as the "Georgian Dolomites."

Here's a brief overview on how to enjoy a two day Juta Valley hike.

Schedule | Juta Valley Hike in 2 Days

  • Day 1 | Juta to Roshka via the Chaukhi Pass | 10 miles
  • Day 2 | Roshka to Juta via the Sadzele Pass | 10 miles

Day 1 | Juta to Roshka via the Chaukhi Pass & Abudelauri Lakes

Start this Juta Valley hike from the trailhead near the Fifth Season Hut. Follow the path along the scenic river. There is a rest stop and small mountain hut on an artificial lake that sells snacks and beverages. On a clear day, have stellar views of the Chaukhi Massif.

  • Follow the blue and white trail markers up to the Chaukhi Pass

Once at the top of the Chaukhi Pass, take the super steep descent down to the Abudelauri Lakes. This Juta Valley hike map passes by the Blue and Green Lakes. The White Abudelauri Lake is a little out of the way and sits at the base of the Chaukhi mastiff. Depending on time and if you're camping or not, either visit the White Abudelauri Lake, or continue into Roshka.

If camping near the lakes, you may not wish to continue all the way into Roshka. There is mostly just two guesthouses and taxi connections (arranged by the guesthouses) to return to Kazbegi or head all the way back to Tbilisi.

Juta Valley Hike to Roshka Day 1

  • Distance:  10 miles
  • Duration: 5 - 7 hours, dependent on weather, breaks, and itinerary
  • Sleeping Options:
    • Camp at the designated camping space near the Blue or Green Lakes
    • Guesthouse in Roshka which includes dinner and breakfast

Day 2 | Roshka to Juta via the Sadzele Pass

After a hearty breakfast, depart Roshka early. On the return to Juta, follow along on the road on the opposite side of the valley. Follow out of town in the direction of the Sadzele Pass. This pass is not nearly as steep or challenging as the Chaukhi Pass.

  • Follow along with the yellow and white trail markers to the top of the Sadzele Pass.

After reaching the Sadzele Pass, come down and arrive to another stunning valley.

  • Now the trail markers are red and white.

Be prepared to show your passport at a small make-shift border guard hut. After the hut, the trail is mostly flat. Keep following the path. Eventually, the path meets a gravel road. The border guards travel this path frequently... they may offer a lift to the gravel road.

Follow the road into the outskirts of Juta.

Roshka to Juta Valley Day 2

  • Distance:  10 miles
  • Duration: 6 - 7 hours, less if you hitch a ride with the border guards to the gravel road
