How to Visit Tabor from Prague
There are multiple ways to visit Tabor, either via public transportation or with a car. Even with public transportation, Tabor makes for an easy day trip from Prague.
Prague to Tabor By Train
České Dráhy runs frequent train departures to Tabor, with regional and express speed options. Tabor is a quick train ride from Prague. Direct trains depart Prague from the Praha Hl.N. main railway station.
Train services run frequently from Prague’s Main Train Station. There are departures via Express train and an InterCity Train. However, there really isn’t much time different. There are other train options, like a Semifast Train that has a little bit longer travel time. All trains are run by České Dráhy.
Tickets can be purchased online, but I found it convenient to purchase directly at the train station.

Prague to Tabor By Bus
FlixBus runs morning and afternoon departures from Prague to Tabor in the high season of summer. During the winter months, there are only morning bus options. The ticket prices are also higher in the summer and a lot less during the winter months.
Departures to Tabor from Prague are from both the Prague ÚAN Florenc and Prague Roztyly bus stations, so make sure to verify the station before purchase.

A Note About Public Transportation to Tabor Czech Republic
Tabor’s train and bus station are a 20-minute walk from the Tabor town center. I suggest casually strolling along the scenic Jordán Reservoir (Lake) to reach the city center.
Buses drop across the street from the train station. Tabor is pedestrian-friendly, and it’s easy to walk and casually explore the main highlights in just a few hours.
Follow the reservoir into the Tabor’s picturesque town square: Žižka Square. There is a beneficial Tourist Information Center that is eager to assist with making the most of a day trip to Tabor from Prague.

It’s easy to incorporate a visit to Tabor. Tabor is less than 60 miles south of Prague, the most popular destination in the Czech Republic. It’s sandwiched conveniently between Prague and Ceske Budejovice, the capital of Southern Bohemia.
Additionally, on a Czech Republic road trip, Tabor is well connected with Pilsen, home of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. The drive between the two cities is around 2 hours.

8 Best Things to Do in Tabor Czech Republic on a Day Trip from Prague
There are plenty of awesome things to do in Tabor to appreciate this hidden gem in Southern Bohemia.
1 | Appreciate Zizka Square
The main attraction and many of the best things to do in Tabor is right in the center of the historic village. Žižkovo Máměstí, or Zizka Square has the Dean’s Church, statues, and the Town Hall Building which now houses the popular Hussite Museum.
Surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and places to stay, the colorful buildings enhance the enchantment of the historic center of Tabor.
2 | Climb the Dean’s Church Tower
The best views of Tabor are located at the top of the Dean’s Church tower in Žižka Square. Climb the 250 steps to see sweeping views of this typical charming village in Southern Bohemia. Crawl under the exposed bell to reach the top.
Tickets for the Tabor Church Tower are for purchase at the top of the tower by a man in a small souvenir shop for 70 CZK. The views of Tabor at the top are definitely worth the effort.
Enjoy the incredible panoramic view of Tabor. On a sunny day, it’s possible to see the Jordán Reservoir off in the distance.
3 | Wander Through the Picturesque Streets of Tabor
Of course, make sure to saunter through the old historic town of Tabor. The streets of Tabor are delightful and make for some excellent photo ops.
4 | Explore the Underground Tunnels
Located underneath the Hussite Museum find an extensive system of underground tunnels and cellars. These unique labyrinths often become a highlight on a visit to Tabor.
These cellars were created sometime during the 15th and 16th centuries. For the Hussites, they were used as storage for food and beer. Additionally, the cellars acted as a place of protection from invaders and even fires that often damaged the city.

5 | Take a Pleasant Walk to the Monastery in Klokoty
A casual and 15-minute stroll from Tabor’s Old Town Square sits the Monastery in Klokoty. The path is clearly marked with helpful signage boards. On the walk, savor the lovely views of the Kotnov Tower of the castle and the Bechyně Gate.
Look over your shoulder and back at the city to get another perspective.
The Monastery is most interesting from the outside, but it’s free to go in and check it out. They do offer more detailed tours and information, however, in my humble opinion, the forest walk to reach the monastery was of more interest to me.
The Klokoty Monastery is a local and important pilgrimage site.
6 | Visit a Museum in Tabor
While the Underground Tunnels are part of the Hussite Museum, there are other popular museums to visit in Tabor like the Museum of Chocolate and Marzipan or the Tábor Brewery Museum.
As of October 2022, the actual Hussite Museum is closed for renovations. However, it’s still possible to visit the underground tunnels and the Gothic Town Hall.
The Museum of Chocolate and Marzipan is located in three historic houses and showcases the history of Chocolate and Marzipan in Europe. There are many statues and dioramas made of sweet treats, including the largest interactive chocolate interactive found in the Czech Republic. Many people enjoy the marzipan model of Tabor village itself.
The cellar of Restaurant Beseda is open to the public in the form of a Brewery Museum. The Brewery Museum costs 30 CZK, but it’s free to climb down the stairs and take a peek at it. I preferred enjoying one of their Czech microbrews from the sunny terrace with views of the main square.
7 | Enjoy the Views of the Tabor City Walls
There are three areas to see the old city walls of Tabor. In my opinion, the best section of the old city wall in Tabor has utilized the surrounding space as an attractive park. There are also views of the old town water tower.
The Tabor city walls offer a peaceful escape with viewpoints of the countryside.
8 | Relax at Jordán Lake
The stunning reservoir of Jordan boasts a pedestrian-friendly park with areas to enjoy a refreshing dip. Note, that there is a sandy beach area across the way.
I wish I had known this, as temperatures were over 90 degrees on my mid-summer visit. I envied those who were cooling off in this man-made lake. So, if looking to escape Prague on a hot day, this is a great place to swim.
Jordan Lake is one of the oldest dammed lakes in Central Europe which was created in 1492.
Near town, find the Jordan Waterfall, which is a result of the dam. Be mindful that depending on natural water accumulation and water levels, the Jordan Waterfall may not be visible.
Where to Eat in Tabor
A visit to Tabor can include delicious and affordable traditional Czech food. There’s an opportunity to soak in the views of the main plaza at a microbrewery.
Enjoy a glass of wine in a lovely wine cellar with a charming patio, or grab an ice cream cone and walk through this picture-perfect village.
Eat Traditional Food at Green Tree
Restaurace U zeleného stromu, or Green Tree has an enchanting garden space to enjoy traditional Czech Food in Tabor. This gem serves up a daily lunch menu at more than affordable prices. The daily menu is only in Czech, but the servers are happy and willing to translate!
Sip on a variety of flavored lemonades, feast on the large portions, and relax in the garden.
Prime Time Microbrewery Location
Restaurant Beseda is a great microbrewery smack dab in the middle of Žižka Square. It makes for a superb place to people-watch. They produce their own beer in a small cellar underneath the restaurant.
This restaurant in Tabor also houses the Tabor Microbrewery.
Visit an Adorable Wine Cellar in Tabor
There is a neat little wine cellar within close proximity to the city walls. Vinotéka U Černého kocoura a zeleného stromu, or Wine Shop at the Black Cat and Green Tree. This is a friendly family-run business that pours wines from the tap and serves a decent selection of Czech Wines by the bottle.
This wine shop usually has at least one feature wine from the Czech Republic on tap. Personally, I love all the wines near the Mikulov wine region. The family completely restored the beautiful cellar. Enjoy the beautiful garden and their two cats relaxing under the trees.
Ahh, the name is perfect, the wine is delicious, and the service is on point. This is a great example of a traditional wine shop in Southern Bohemia.

Unique Treats
No visit to Tabor is complete without stepping into MOCCACAFÉ, everyone’s favorite local ice cream shop. This tiny gem offers unique ice cream flavors made in-house. All the ingredients are fresh and created with intention.
I couldn’t help but stare in awe at their dessert display and was ready to purchase one of everything. On the day I visited Tabor, their featured ice cream flavor was Aperol. So, expect truly uncommon flavors. The ice cream here is unique, fun, and rotates often.

Yes, l know this guide is all about how to spend one day in Tabor. As stated earlier, visiting Tabor is one of the easiest day trips from Prague. Tabor is most definitely worth visiting!
