Riegrovy Sady | The Best Sunsets in the Vinohrady Neighborhood
Riegrovy Sady was my favorite Prague sunset spot and was often my “go-to” spot at the end of the day. Anytime I was visiting the Vinohrady neighborhood, I made sure to grab a seat on the sprawling grass lawn and watch the sky change from blue to bright shades hues of orange, red, and purple.
This Prague sunset spot sits in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Prague, Vinohrady. The leafy park just adds to the flair of the neighborhood. Most locals pack a picnic and find a spot on the grass.
There is a beer garden Mlíkárna that is strategically placed in the middle of the hill. Conveniently, they also sell to-go beverages. Additionally, there is another popular open-air beer garden with different food and drink options found just down the path, conveniently named Park Riegrovy Sady.
Arrive early to snag a stellar glimpse of Prague Castle. I found sitting at the top of the hill provided the best vista.
Tips for Watching the Sunset in Riegrovy Sady
Do as the locals do and pack some snacks and beverages. I highly suggest stopping by Vinotéka Noelka, an adorable little wine shop that offers more than affordable wine by the bottle or poured from the tap. This awesome Prague wine shop even fills up 1 or 2-liter “bottles” to go. Pick up a liter of wine, bring some cups, and enjoy one of the best sunsets in Prague on a budget.
Vinohrady is a fabulous district to sleep in and explore the very best of Prague.
Vyšehrad | Top Prague Sunset Spot From a Fortress
Vyšehrad, a spectacular old fortress has stunning vantage points of Prague. This complex contains a huge green space, fortress walls, an impressive basilica, a memorable cemetery, vineyards, and a panoramic beer garden. Vyšehrad is also recognized as a National Cultural Monument.
I often found myself wandering here multiple times to savor the tranquil atmosphere and appreciate some of the best sunsets in Prague.
Wander through the park and visit different sections of this fortress system. From captivating views of River Vltava to orange rooftops of Prague’s New Town, this is a great place to cherish the charm of the city. It is free to walk about the beautiful park.
Tips for Watching the Sunset from Vhšehrad
Try to arrive half an hour before the Vyšehrad Cemetery closes. Walk around and enjoy the large monuments, colorful mosaics, and immaculately landscaped graves. The free cemetery is hauntingly beautiful.
Hospůdka Na Hradbách is on the other side of the fortress and offers a festive vibe and is a sight to behold. Locals, tourists, and families come to enjoy this beer garden. There are plenty of places to purchase a beverage or snack.
If serenity is what you are seeking, grab a drink and grab a seat next to the fortress walls. The prices are more than reasonable prices and they offer a variety of beverages. I loved the peppy band that was playing, which I stumbled upon by chance.
Metronome & Stalin Cultural Center | A Hip Place to Watch the Sunset in Prague
The Prague Metronome in Letna Park is another excellent Prague sunset spot. Trendy skateboarders practice their tricks on the backside, while the Metronome’s surrounding walls are filled to the brim with eager sunset seekers.
There is a pop-up that runs throughout the summer called Stalin, which not only sells beverages but provides a hip cultural center with plenty of free activities. Each night rotates through a wide range of activities from movie showings, to live music and comedy shows.
Although the actual sunset skyline isn’t as spectacular as my above choices, this is the best place to be if craving a thriving and humming atmosphere. Letna Park provides a plethora of people-watching opportunities.
As the sun goes down, the live music starts. It is completely free to sit back and chill out in the space, but donations are highly recommended. These contributions go back to the nightly performers.
Tips for less crowds at the Metronome
I loved the Metronome area because of all the people watching. But if seeking the same killer view and fewer people, walk 5 minutes to the Hanau pavilion. Enjoy the free pavilion in front of the restaurant. There were only a few people there, so this Prague sunset spot feels a little less overwhelming.
Sunsets From Prague Castle’s Observation Deck
This Observation Deck, “Vyhlídka u Černé věže,” is located along the walls of the Prague Castle. This section of the castle seems to be relatively quiet at sunset, as most of the tourists have retreated back to their hotel rooms after a busy day of sightseeing.
I like this area because it offers another vantage point of Prague that I wouldn’t normally see. The lighting was best about an hour before the sunset in Prague. This magic hour really allows for the buildings and orange roofs of Prague to “pop.”
During opening hours, it is free to walk through the castle. Walking the perimeter of the castle is always open, and the observation deck is always accessible! This Prague viewpoint with its close vicinity to the Prague Castle makes it an ideal place to pause and watch the sky change to night.
T-Anker, Sunsets via Roof-Top Bar
T-Anker is one of the best spots to watch the sunset in Prague. Located on top of the Kotva Department Store, it may seem like an odd place to watch the sun go down. However, this rooftop terrace provides perfect views of Prague Castle and the Old Town Square.
This is one of the best sunset spots in Prague to experience up close and personal views of all of Prague’s spires.
T-Anker boasts a substantial beer menu, and even a “beer sommelier” to go with it. Some people say the prices are a “little steep,” but so is the view in front of you. The location of Prague’s Old Town and the views were worth the fee.
Tips for This Top Prague Sunset Spot
The views of Prague are the same price whether you order a small drink or a large one. Grab a drink from here to appreciate the view, but head elsewhere to eat. I found the drink service efficient and the waiters friendly.
Explore Prague by Chasing Sunsets
Prague is a beautiful canvas that can be appreciated in any lighting, but there is something special about the sunset hour. With so many vistas and viewpoints scattered throughout the city, it was difficult to narrow down the best sunset spots in Prague.
